Tamil Nadu Government: census from 1st April!

The State Government of Tamil Nadu has announced that census (counting of the population) will commence on 1st April this year and will conclude on 30th September.

The Census is being taken, once in 10 years in India. The last time, it was conducted in the year 2011. The BJP-led central government is initiating activities to commence census operation in 2021.

Meanwhile, protests are being organised throughout the country against the National Population Count and National Citizen Register. During the year 2011, the population record taken in 2010 was used in the census preparation.

However, the census record of 2010 was totally different from the usual census record format. A large section of the population has strongly protested against the National Citizens’ Register as a bad schedule with ulterior motives of the ruling party and it is dangerous!

In this scenario, the central Registrar General Office has issued a circular to all the states regarding the procedure to take a census and the questions to be asked to the citizens.

It is mentioned that the census will be done in 2 Phases. In the 1st Phase, NPR (National Population Register) should be carried out. Further, the number of houses also must be counted.

In this situation, the announcement by the central government has been published in the Tamil Nadu Government journal. It mentions:

The census count for 2021 must commence on 1st April; 2020 and must be concluded on 30th September 2020. 31 questions will be asked to the citizens during this census and the answers must be registered. The first 5 questions will be regarding the house.

6th and 7th questions will pertain to whether the housed is used fully only for residing or not. The 8th to 10th questions will be regarding the Head of the house. The 11th to 31st questions will be regarding the facilities in the house, household consumer goods, and other gadgets and vehicles.

During the census, questions regarding the house number, the wall and floor of the house, the material used for the roof, the strength of the house, the number of people in the house, is the house leader a man or woman, who is the house owner, the caste of the people residing, and how many rooms are there.

Further, other questions asked would include - the number of married people, the source of drinking water, the type of toilet, whether the bathing facility is available, is a drainage system available, LPG cooking gas connection, internet connection, computer, laptops, radio, TV, telephone, cell phone, smartphone, 2-wheeler, car, jeep, van, the staple food, the fuel used for cooking, and the source electric power r connection.
