The Grand Brahmotsavam in the temple of Lord Thyagaraja in Chennai Thiruvotriyur is celebrated and performed during the Tamil calendar month of Masi and was in progress. The grand Brahmotsavam festival concluded with the celebration of Pandham Pari Utsavam 18 divine dances.
The famous Thiruvotriyur Lord Thyagaraja Swami and His Consort Goddess Vadivudai Amman temple are more than 2000 years old! The Brahmotsavam in this temple, performed in the Tamil calendar month of Masi, is celebrated in a grand manner.
This year, the Brahmotsavam commenced with a divine flag-hoisting ceremony on 29th February.
On the festival celebration days, the idol of Lord Chandrasekharar is taken on processions along the corridors and streets in various special carriages such as Surya Prabhai (Sun), Chandra Prabhai (Moon), elephant, horse, lion, demon, rishabam (bull), Asthamanagiri, Adhikaranandhi, Indira Vimanam, and flower palanquin offering Darshan to the devotees.
The grand Chariot Procession festival was celebrated on 6th March. The divine marriage of Lord Kalyanasundarar was performed on 8th March. The procession of 63 Nayanmars on the temple corridor streets, and Magizhadi Sevai were also performed grandly!
As a conclusion of Brahmotsavam, yesterday (Wednesday, 11th March) early morning, Pandham Pari Utsavam and 18 divine dances were performed grandly!
The idol of Lord Thyagaraja Swami was adorned with flowers and was carried on a flower-bedecked palanquin on the temple corridor streets.
Procession on the Maada Veedhi commenced with the sacred idols of Lord Chandikeswarar and Goddess Vadivudai Amman in the forefront at 4.00 AM. After completion of the processions across the corridor streets, the grand item of reading the festival income-expenditure was done.
With the idols of Lord Thyagarajar and Goddess Vadivudai Amman reaching Vasantha Thotti, 9 dances were performed as Edhir Sevai. Subsequently, the idol of Goddess Vadivudai Amman was carried out and placed and seated South and then Lord Thyagarajar performed 9 dances!
During this 18 dance performance period, incense was burnt to let out perfumes and colour flowers were sprayed as a part of the prayer/worship. At this moment, the gathering of thousands of devotees chanted, Votriyura! Thyagaraya! in reverberating tones!
With this, the grand Masi Brahmotsavam at Chennai Thyagaraja Swami Temple concluded.
