The Public Sector Oil Corporations have imposed a strict regulation that a registration for a 2nd LPG cooking cylinder by the customer can be made at least 15 days after the purchase of 1 cylinder.

The Public sector organizations in the oil sector - Indian Oil, Bharath Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum - have 2.38 Crores of Household LPG cooking gas cylinders in Tamil Nadu State.

These 3 corporations, through 1600 gas agencies throughout the state of Tamil Nadu, supply/deliver an average of 2.65 Lakhs LPG household cooking gas cylinders every day.

As at present, there is a facility for the customer to book for the next cylinder just 1 day after receiving the 1st cylinder! This can be done online on the official websites of the Oil Corporations. Generally, the cylinder is delivered in 2 days.

With the intense impact of the raging coronavirus and its fast-spreading, the central and the state governments were constrained to take preventive measures against the spread of this virus and hence, the lockdown was imposed throughout the country from 25th March to 14th April. Despite this, the Oil Corporations have announced that the LPG cooking gas cylinders will be supplied as usual.

At this juncture, due to the unnecessary anxiety whether there would be a shortage of gas cylinders, even those households where the cylinder is full and fresh tend to register for the next LPG cooking gas cylinder! This has led to a situation/crisis where there is a shortage encountered in the delivery of cylinders!

Subsequently, the Oil Corporations have imposed the regulation that a 2nd cylinder may be ordered ONLY 15 DAYS AFTER the delivery of the previous gas cylinder!
