Chennai city is now under lock down for 21 days to contain Corona virus infection. This has resulted in sales coming down at the highly famous Koyambedu wholesale market.

It was mentioned by some traders that more than 50 % sale in this market has been affected because of the lock down. The lack of business had made many traders to sell their produce at low rates.

It is now said that following the government directive the vegetables were not sold much in retail and just 50 percent of small traders from Kothaval chavadi and other markets purchase vegetables from Koyambedu market between 6 am to 7 am.

A trader explained about how the market received 25 % of supply from states like AP, Karnataka and Maharashtra and how the supply was stopped after the borders were closed. Important information is from last week the market has been receiving sufficient supply but remain unsold leading to 50% of business getting hit.
