As per the announcement made by the Central Finance Minister Nirmala Seetharaman during March, in order to help the extremely poor people put to great hardships without jobs during this lockdown period, aids/assistance worth Rs. 28.256 Crores have been given to 30 Crores people belonging to the extremely poor category under the Prime Minister’s ‘Garib Kalyan Yojana’ (poor people fund).
As the lockdown is imposed throughout the country as a preventive measure against the raging coronavirus spread, the central government had announced that it will offer relief (free food items, grains, and assistance money) worth Rs. 1.70 Lakhs Crores to the poor women, the poor senior citizens, and the farmers.
It has been mentioned in the article published by the central finance ministry that accordingly, under the Prime Minister’s Garib Kalyan Yojana, assistance worth Rs. 28,256 Crores is being given.
Further, under the Prime Minister’s Farmers’ Assistance Scheme, a total fund of Rs. 13.853 Crores has been deposited in the bank savings accounts of the farmers.
Out of the 8 Crores farmers identified under the Prime Minister’s Farmers’ Assistance Scheme, Rs. 2000 each has been deposited in the bank savings accounts of around 6.93 Crores farmers and they have availed this and benefited!
For the women who have ‘Jan Dhan’ bank savings account under the Prime Minister’s Fund Scheme, Rs. 500 each has been credited to their respective bank savings accounts for 19.86 Crores women for a total of Rs. 9.930 Crores.
Under NSAP (National Social Assistance Plan), Rs. 1400 Croes have been allotted for the 2.82 Crores senior citizens, widows, and differently-abled. Each beneficiary received Rs. 1000 as mercy fund.
In a similar procedure, under the construction workers’ fund managed by the state governments, a total financial assistance of Rs. 3066 Crores have been given to 2.16 Crores construction workers.
Under the Prime Minister’s ‘Garib Kalyan’ Scheme, 1,2 Crores Meric Tons of food grains have been distributed by the central government during the period from April to June.
Further, for the next 3 months, under the ‘Ujjwala Plan’, free LPG cooking gas and potato will be given to 8.3 Crores of poor women and Rs. 50 Lakhs worth of Insurance Cover for the Health Workers.
