The Chennai High Court has given conditional approval for the various political parties and self-volunteers to distribute relief items to the public, especially, the poor facing extreme hardships during this coronavirus lockdown period under certain conditions.
Earlier, the state government of Tamil Nadu had banned the direct distribution of relief items by self-volunteers and political parties to the poor in the lockdown period.
A petition was filed against this ban by the political parties DMK, Congress, and MDMK.
When this petition came up for enquiry, it was explained on behalf of the State Government of Tamil Nadu that the ban purported by these people was false and the petition has been filed with the intention of bringing political overtures to the government action.
In this situation, with the enquiry on this petition conducted today (Thursday, 15th April) the judges gave the verdict: In case relief items are to be given, it is sufficient for the concerned people must inform the police. There is no need to obtain permission. However, 4 hours before the actual distribution, information must be given to the concerned authorities.
Only 3 persons will be allowed to organize the distribution.
