The chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswami did not commit himself to the extension of lock down after 3rd May 2020. It must be noted that some chief ministers of other states in India have requested PM of India Mr. Narendra Modi to extend the lock down even after 3rd May 2020.

Important information is the CM of TN did not mention about the extension in the letter he had sent to PM Mr. Narendra Modi after the video conference got over, but confined himself to funds seeking and PCR kits for aggressive testing. In the state of TN, the total number of Corona virus positive cases stood at 1937 on Monday, 27th April and as many as 52 fresh cases were recorded in TN.

Previously, on 11th April, CM of TN in his last video conferencing had sought for 2 weeks extension of the lock down is known. The CM of TN took part in inter-ministerial central team meeting after Corona virus situation in Chennai was termed serious. Anti Covid-19 measures were mentioned by the TN officials.

A senior official later pointed out that rather than the lock down extension TN government is focused on the post lock down measures. He added that the TN state government would not lift the lock down completely even after 3rd May and it would just be partial or staggered lift only.

It is known that the purpose of the lock down was to help prepare the people for social distancing and allow the government agencies enough time for the exit. This was as per some policy makers.

There would be more stringent measures that would be implemented in the next phase with respect to surveillance, contact tracing, and quarantine etc. There are chances that the new norms like social distancing could be in place for the next 6 months.
