For the 3rd consecutive day on Tuesday, Chennai recorded more than 500 Corona virus positive cases and it has set alarm bells ringing now.

The authorities belonging to the public health sat together to devise a new urban containment plan.

The total number of persons affected by Corona virus in TN is 8718 and on Tuesday 716 more persons were affected. In the Chennai city alone, the total number of persons who got affected with Covid-19 were 4882 and on Tuesday in Chennai as many as 510 new cases were reported.

Brainstorming was done by the senior members and by the members of the expert committee for a plan to ensure compliance inside the containment zones in north Chennai. There were also some group discussions regarding improving contact tracing and testing in emerging zones in south Chennai.

It must be taken into account that the team decided to recommend reducing the quarantine period for those testing positive from 28 days to 14 days. This was according to the international protocol.

It was brought out by the GCC special nodal officer, Mr. Radhakrishnan that if the quarantine period was just 14 days then it would be easy to convince the persons to stay in their homes and follow strict quarantine measures. He revealed that the government is mulling to declare an area as containment zone only when about 5 families or 25 persons tests Corona virus positive. It is known that presently even if one person tests positive the entire area is marked as red zone.

Information is the residence of the positive person would remain as the epicentre and the area would not be announced as ‘no go’ zone. The people would feel the need to follow the rules only if there were many positive cases on the same street or area or else the violations would be rampant.
