Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that the low-pressure zone formed in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the Arabian Sea might transform into a cyclone and this may lead to heavy rains in the states of Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra, and Gujarat.
IMD has informed that the low-pressure zone formed over the Arabian Sea has transformed into a depression zone. This may further intensify and has start drifting towards the North of the Arabian Sea.
As on early morning today (Tuesday, 2nd June), the depression zone was located 300 km away from Kerala, 550 km southwest of Mumbai, and 760 km from Gujarat.
In 12 hours, this may intensify further according to the IMD report. Thus, this depression zone is set to transform into a cyclone by the afternoon.
IMD had announced earlier that in case this depression zone transforms into a cyclone, it will be named ‘Nigarsa’. In this situation, as the depression zone intensifies, medium rains with thunder are expected over the Lakshadweep and heavy to very heavy rains in the coastal areas of Kerala and Karnataka.
In case the depression zone transforms into a cyclone, it is expected to cross the coast between North Maharashtra and South Gujarat.
IMD has informed that during the period of the cyclone crossing the coast, high-speed winds from 95 kmph to 105 kmph will blow.
As the sea will be turbulent, the fishermen of the above localities are warned not to venture into the sea for fishing!
