The news that has come out now is the Southern Railways or SR has proposed operations of three more special trains inside Tamil Nadu. Southern Railways zone or SR zone has sent a request to the Railway Board or RB to operate 1 pair of special train from Coimbatore to Arakkonam and 2 pairs of trains from Trichy to Chengalpet. The chief secretary has made request to the zonal officials regarding the operation of special trains.
The official communication sent by the zone to the RB on 1st of June mentioned about the proposal to convert Karaikudi- Egmore Pallavan Express (train no 12606/12605) and Trichy- Egmore (train no 16795/16796) as intercity special between Trichy and Chengalpet. There are also recommendations received from the officials for utilising Chennai-Coimbatore Kovai Express (train no 12675/12676) as superfast intercity special between Arakkonam and Coimbatore.
The RB has proposed a schedule and according to the schedule it was clear that one special train beginning from Trichy at 6:30 am would run via Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruppadiripuliyur, Villupuram and Melmaruvathur and would reach Chengalpet at 12:40 pm.
It is important to note that the train no 06796/06795 would cover a part of delta and other train no 02606/02605 would start at 7am from Trichy and reach Chengalpet at 11:30 am via usual Ariyalur, Villupuram, Melmaruvathur route. Through the usual Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Jolarpet and Katpadi route, the special train (02675/02676) would run from Coimbatore.
At 3:15 pm from Coimbatore, the superfast train would start and it would reach Arakkonam at 9:45 pm.
