In recent times, Vellore witnessed a spike in the Coronavirus positive cases due to the people who reached Vellore from Chennai. Now, the Vellore district administration is having plans to quarantine all travelers from the Chennai city.
On Saturday, 6th June, the Vellore district saw a total of 29 fresh Coronavirus positive cases. It must be noted that an urban PHC at Saidapet was closed down on Sunday and this was in addition to the shutting down of a private hospital due to Coronavirus case.
Information is the private hospital was shut down after a Katpadi based government doctor who had visited this private hospital had tested Coronavirus positive. Four in-patients of this private hospital were discharged without mandatory Covid-19 testing. Orders were issued to seal the hospital.
The two-wheelers continue to enter the Vellore district through less known village roads now. It is known that there are check posts at Pillayarkuppam that is 10 km from Vellore on Chennai-Bangalore national highway plus another check post at Katpadi covering Tiruvalam Road. This was according to the officials.
It was later pointed out by Mr. A. Shamnugha Sundaram, Vellore collector that it was impossible to put check posts on the village roads. He added that the logistic issues have led to the dropping of the plan of associating with Ranipet administration to control this issue.
It is now clear that 2 large marriage halls would be hired on the NH Road and all those from Chennai would be quarantined in these marriage halls.
