While the rate of increase in the Coronavirus positive cases has been reducing in the Adyar and in Valarasavakkam zones, the rates have increased in Tondiarpet and in Anna Nagar zones. In the last 3 days, the daily average number of cases recorded in the Tondiarpet zone has been 184.3. In the last fortnight, this was 91.33.
It is now revealed that the spike of 93 cases in the daily average is the highest for all the zones under GCC. The second highest surge in the number of cases in the daily average has been witnessed in the Anna Nagar zone with 52 cases.
Other zones like Royapuram (zone with the highest number of Covid-19 cases) have got a daily average spike of 44. Information is Adyar zone and the Valarasawakkam zone has daily average spikes of 10.73 and 8.33 respectively.
Increased testing of persons has contributed to more number of positive cases in the zones like Tondiarpet and Anna Nagar and this was according to the officials.
During intensive fever surveillance, identification of influenza-like illness has led to more testing. This was confirmed by Mr. K.P. Karthikeyan, a nodal IAS officer for the Tondiarpet zone. Truth is in those areas that have more fever cases every day 12 to 15 camps are being conducted. He later highlighted that the 15,000 residents with co-morbid conditions like BP, diabetes, etc were selectively tested.
The nodal IAS officer then spoke about how in those areas where there has been a lack of transport mobile testing vans have been deployed for testing the people. It is worthy to note that the presence of Stanley Hospital in this area has been responsible for more number of positive cases.
A junior civic official expressed his views and spoke about how in the Anna Nagar zone there has been more focus on testing asymptomatic contacts of Coronavirus positive cases belonging to lower-middle-class residential areas.
