Those who were eagerly waiting for the Chennai restaurants to reopen again would feel disappointed now!!
Many restaurant owners, around 30 percent, are now in the wait and watch mood plus there is a shortage of labor and cash in many restaurants. These factors would be responsible for just 40 % of restaurants opening from Today, 8th June 2020 in Chennai.
There are more than 9500 eateries including bakery shops and coffee shops in Chennai city. It was brought to light by Mr. M. Ravi, president, Chennai Hotels Association, and chairman of Vasantha Bhavan Hotels India, due to a huge manpower shortage in the hotels it would take atleast 6 months of time to get back to normal.
He added that many hoteliers have been facing a huge cash crunch to restart their hotel operations in Chennai. He concluded that the government must provide their support by removing GST for one year and banks must also provide their help. It must be taken into note that there would not be any immediate impact on the prices. Point is the hotels have decided to drop many items from their menu list. Select outlets that would have good footfall would only be opened now. The restaurants would be opened in a phased manner in Chennai city.
