Review meeting on coronavirus prevention activities: Chennai Corporation

A review meeting was conducted on 8th June (Monday) at the Amma Building on the preventive activities undertaken against the spreading of the raging coronavirus pandemic.

Here are the salient points of the above meeting brought out by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC):
  • The activity of spraying disinfectants in all areas under the jurisdiction of GCC is in good progress.
  • House-to-house visits are made to distribute ‘kabasura kudineer’ and nutrition tablets in order to increase the body resistance of the Chennai citizens against any diseases.
  • Making house-to-house calls/visits regarding checking of any affected patients is also in progress at an earnest pitch.
  • 10 sample-collecting centres have been set up in the areas under the jurisdiction of GCC which can detect infection of COVID-19.
  • Around 1.5 Lakhs tests have been taken in Chennai Metro City. Further, all the containment or red zones where the intensity/impact of the coronavirus spread has been very high are all checked by a micro-monitoring process quite intensively.
  • Mobile toilets have been set up in the declared containment zones where the impact of COVID-19 has been maximum.
  • The doctors have been monitoring the health condition of the patients isolated in homes over 14 days through telephones and offering consultancy when required.
  • 347380 persons, deployed by the health department of GCC /State Government on the coronavirus prevention/controlling activities, as they are easily liable to be infected, are being closely monitored.
  • On average, 100 senior citizens are being attended closely to answer their needs by GCC, in a joint operation with Help Age India.
  • 100 coronavirus special camps are being organised every day to provide the required treatment to the persons with the symptoms of getting infected with the coronavirus.
  • Homoeopathic medicine - Organic album - approved by the State Government, is presently being used for arresting/preventing the spread of the coronavirus.
  • As recommended by the Indian Medical Council (IMC), hydroxychloroquine tablets are to be distributed to the staff/doctors who are engaged in the prevention activities.
  • For monitoring the health conditions of over 30 lakhs hut-dwelling residents in the Chennai Metro Cities, various important measures such as registering the resident details, identifying the persons who are likely to be easily affected by the virus, wherever identifying symptoms of coronavirus, explain the concerned regarding the self-protection measures and the other preventive steps to be taken.
  • For the hut-dwelling residents of the Chennai Metro City, 3 washable/reusable face masks made of cloth, nutrition tablets, and ‘kabasura kudineer’ are being given individually.
