When asked about the status of the Tamil Nadu government’s promise to reduce power cuts, Electricity, Prohibition and Excise Minister Natham R. Viswanathan shot back, ‘“Is it June yet? But for your information for the past two or three days there have been reduced power cuts across the State, in both rural and urban areas. Rural areas are seeing only one hour cut and Chennai is receiving uninterrupted power. This is well ahead of the government’s own schedule for power outage reductions.’ The government had promised to improve the power situation by June of this year.

Mr. Viswanathan also said, ‘The Unified Load Despatch & Communications Centre would be modernised for `20 crore… A roof-top solar power plant would be installed at the Namakkal Kavignar Maaligai office building at the Secretariat, energy efficiency measures would be put in place at the Ezhilagam office complex at Chepauk.’
