In Chennai, fever clinics to identify influenza like illness or ILI organised by GCC

Beginning from Sunday, 14th June 2020, GCC has been organising fever clinics in various parts of Chennai city for the sake of identifying suspected cases of Coronavirus infection.

It must be noted that on day 1 nearly 400 persons with influenza like illness or ILI were identified by GCC. Royapuram zone contributed to more than half of these above said fever cases. It is well known that Royapuram zone has got the highest number of Coronavirus positive cases in Chennai. 

In 14 out of 15 zones belonging to GCC, as many as203 fever camps were organised on Sunday. The fever camps have screened as many as 10541 persons. Truth is 392 out of 10541 had ILI in them.

In the Royapuram zone, most number of people (3048) was scanned and out of those 199 had ILI. It is mentioned that samples from 392 with ILI were collected and the samples would be tested. For testing a  wider population belonging to the Chennai city, fever camps would be organised in different locations of the city. 

In the 483 fever clinic organised by the GCC, thousands of Chennai people took part. The doctors present at the fever clinic camps would check the symptoms and would distribute tablets and medicines to those with mild symptoms. 

In those with severe symptoms, tests would be conducted. Multivitamin tablets and zinc tablets have been distributed. It was alleged by some residents that these tablets were distributed only to those with cold or cough.

According to a resident belonging to Madipakkam, all residents who have availed government health insurance must be tested.  He then revealed how he was just given a kabasura kudineer when he asked for the tablets. He was told that the tablets were meant for those with symptoms. Point is the fever clinics are run by division health workers and by unit health officers.
