The well-known popular veteran playback singer (Tamil) A. L. Raghavan passed away after coronavirus infection without responding to treatment.
A.L. Raghavan was born in the year 1933 in Thanjavur District Ayyampettai.
Raghavan made his debut as a playback singer in the movie ‘Krishna Vijayam’ in the year 1950 introduced by the music director, C. S. Jayaraman.
After the successful debut, he continued playback singing with all the popular music directors of that time - C. S. Subbaraman, Viswanathan-Ramamurthy, K. V. Mahadevan, and others. He sang over 100 songs, most of them remain extremely popular.
He ruled as one of the kings in the playback arena until the year 1980 - his immensely popular songs include - ‘Engirundhalum Vaazhga’, ‘Yenna vegam, nillu Bhama’, etc., which are being enjoyed even today!
Especially, most of the songs Raghavan sang for the popular actor Gemini Ganesan won great popularity among the film song buffs!
Apart from playback singing, A. L. Raghavan also acted in some TV Serials - ‘Alaigal’, ‘Ahalya’, etc.
A.L. Raghavan had married another popular Tamil film actress, M. N. Rajam. In recent times, due to old age and breathing difficulties, was suffering from diseases.
In this situation, he confirmed positive for coronavirus infection.
He was admitted to Porur Ramachandra Hospital. Without responding to the treatment, A. L. Raghavan passed away this morning (Friday, 19th June).
