Coronavirus infection positive cases have been on the rise in the recent times in the Chennai city inspite of many steps taken by the government to contain the spread.
In this scenario, phishing groups have been taking advantage and they have been promising free Coronavirus tests. Now, the CERT or Computer Emergency Response Team of India has warned these phishing groups.
On its twitter handle, CERT had tweeted about malicious gangs that have been planning large scale phishing attacks on the individuals and various business firms etc.
It was revealed that the emails from the phishing groups would reach us under the pretext of local authorities being in-charge of dispensing government funded COVID-19 support initiatives. Important piece of information is that those types of emails have been designed to attract recipients towards fake websites. This would lead to the person downloading malicious files. In addition to this, the persons would also be entering their personal as well as their financial data.
It must be noted that the phishing gangs have obtained more than 2 million email IDs and they are planning to send the emails with the subject titled ‘Free COVID Testing”. The phishing gangs were supposed to begin sending emails from Sunday and it is now said that apart from Chennai residents those belonging to cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad would also be targeted.
By using fake government agencies email IDs like ncov2019@gov.in, these gangs would be sending emails to the persons. Now, CERT has warned the citizens not to open the links of unsolicited emails.
