nce when the normalcy returns, all the schools would be reopened in TN. It is now revealed that starting from next Monday free textbooks for the classes 1 to 12 would be delivered to all the government and government aided schools in TN for the new academic year.
Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation would be entrusted with the printing of the textbooks for the elementary to higher secondary school stage every year is a known fact. The lockdown imposed to control the Coronavirus infection has delayed the printing of textbooks and other activities. In the middle of last week, a senior officer belonging to the School Education Department revealed that at a cost of Rs 195.25 crores this year also free textbooks would be given to all the students studying in government and government aided schools.
Under the free textbook scheme this year, more than 70lakh students under the state run schools would be benefited. He hinted that the printing of the textbooks was completed and from 22nd June all the district education officers or DEO would collect the textbooks and send them to respective regions. The DEO’s have been given strict instructions to follow social distancing norms like wearing facemasks while transporting the textbooks to the schools in TN. School headmasters plus staff must be available to receive the textbooks and this would be according to the requirement.
It is worthy to mention here that the textbooks would be reaching all the schools on or before 30th of June. Important information is textbook distribution in the districts like Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpet would begin from 1st of July as these districts would be under lockdown till 30th June. At a cost of Rs 107.20 crores, notebooks would also be distributed to the students belonging to the classes 1 to 10 in the state run schools.
