The distribution of the expired zinc tablets and low dosage tablets at the fever camps conducted by Greater Chennai Corporation has become the talk of the town now.

For 90 long days, normal life has been disturbed in the Chennai city due to Coronavirus infection. It is said that GCC still remains stubborn in learning the lessons as it had allegedly distributed expired medicines to the people in some parts of Chennai. It was later brought out by a resident of Madipakkam that a few days back GCC organised fever camps in the locality and they refused to supply tablets to those without any co-morbid conditions.

He added that GCC distributed tablets to those with co-morbid conditions and to the aged persons. The residents were shocked to find that some zinc sulphate tablets given were already expired.

It must be taken into account that as a precautionary measure against Coronavirus the TN government had given instructions to the Chennai Corporation to distribute zinc tablets, multivitamin tablets with kabasura kudineer to the vulnerable persons.

Point is GCC distributes medicines to those visiting the fever camps in addition to distributing medicines to the houses in the containment areas. Instead of distributing the recommended dosage, GCC has been outwitting both the public as well as the government by distributing lesser dosage tablets. It was mentioned by a resident that instead of the prescribed 550 mg of zinc sulphate tablets GCC has been distributing 55mg tablets. There is some suspicion of misconduct in the procurement of the tablets.
