Information is gathered that the central government is reviewing the prospects of reducing the rates for residential broadband connections.
Due to the prevailing raging coronavirus spread, most of the employees are working from home using the internet facility.
In this situation, it is learnt that the central government is now reviewing the prospects of reducing the licence fee charged for the Internet Service providers for providing the residential broadband connection It is learnt that this may be reduced by the rate of Rs. 1/- per year.
As per the current system, the licence for providing the broadband connection is calculated as 8% of the revenue earned and an amount of up to Rs 880 Crores was collected.
It is learnt that the opinions/views/suggestion/recommendations of the related central ministries have been sought before presenting this proposal to the cabinet for approval.
It is gathered that in case this proposed reduction is approved and implemented, internet service providers in the market - Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vodafone, et., - will be benefited.
However, at the same time, it is also learnt that there would BE NO REVISIONS for the broadband internet connections given to the commercial organisations!
