Though the recently shifted wholesale vegetable/fruit/flower the market in Thirumazhisai has settled now and started regular functioning, the retail prices of the vegetables have gone up slightly!
The retail vegetable traders have explained that the expenses of travelling up to Thirumazhisai, procuring and transporting are much higher – hence they have increased the prices of the vegetables on retail.
Further, as the sales of meat and fish shops are banned in the 100% lockdown imposition during this period, more vegetables are bought by the people coming from early morning in large numbers.
Especially, tomato which was sold at Rs. 40 per kg, is now being sold at Rs. 55 to Rs. 60 per kg. The vegetable, beans, which was sold at Rs. 80 per kg, is now being sold at Rs. 100 per kg. The price of each vegetable has been pushed up by Rs. 5 to Rs. 20 per kg!
