Chennai city was faced with a severe shortage of packaged drinking water over the weekend as packaged water manufacturers went on strike. But it did not spell bad news for everyone. Dealers of water purifiers made good sales as consumers looked to the RO systems to make up for the lack of drinking water.
However, a majority of the city’s residents went on hunts to find bottles or cans of drinking water. ‘We usually pay Rs 30 for the can. After much searching, I caught hold of a supplier and paid a heavy price of Rs 120 for each can. And I am not even sure if the water is alright. But is there an option? (I) would ensure the water gets boiled before consumption’, said a resident.
