Around this time every year, the state of Tamil Nadu usually gets affected by dengue. This time around, dengue has remained low in TN. It is now believed that the efforts to control the spread of Coronavirus infection have resulted in an unexpected gain.
Point is in case of a dengue outbreak, the officials belonging to the GCC have asked to put action plans in place. In the previous years at this time around, the number of dengue cases reported were high but now the number of dengue cases are minimal.
The disinfection done to control the spread of Covid-19 infection has helped to reduce the breeding of the mosquitoes. This has been as per some doctors.
In the year 2019, TN had as many as6577 dengue cases ands atleast 5 persons succumbed to this dengue. In the months of June and July, more than 100 dengue cases were reported. The city of Chennai had the highest number of Dengue cases. This was mentioned by the National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme. In 2020, just suspected fever cases have been reported at the government hospitals in TN.
A medical consultant of RGGGH Chennai explained about the presence of suspected cases of dengue at this hospital with no confirmed cases of dengue in large numbers. He threw light on how the persons with fever who tested negative for Coronavirus infection but continue to show dengue like symptoms are being tested.
