Since the Coronavirus pandemic began in the month of March, Royapuram, Tondiarpet and Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar have been in the limelight due to the high number of Coronavirus positive cases.
It has been shown by key indicators analyzed by GCC that public health efforts need to be concentrated also on the Manali zone that had lower caseloads than other zones.
Information is as of last week Manali zone was the reddest zone based on the metric of positive cases incidence per lakh population. Metric for Manali zone was 1404, for Royapuram it was 1303 and for Tondiarpet it was 1222.
It is important to note that around 1.3lakh people are spread across 42.33 sq km in Manali whereas in Royapuram around 7lakh people are spread across the same area. Active case incidence per lakh population criteria, Manali comes next to Kodambakkam (288) with the number of263.
It was later mentioned by an official that in the Manali zone the Coronavirus positive cases are on the rise now and they have initiated strict containment measures. In the Manali zone in the last 7 days, the number of positive cases has increased by 3.7 percent.
Incidence per lakh population metric could provide an idea to the public health experts to plan strategy but it won’t show the spread of Coronavirus infection. This was as per Dr. P. Ganeshkumar from NIE. He added that one has to check if testing has been uniform across all the zones in Chennai.
Till July 2020, just 355 health camps have been held in the Manali zone and this was shown by the data belonging to Chennai Corporation. Point is the average number of people attending per camp was 76. This has been the highest across all the zones in GCC. Fever camps in Manali attract more people as it was like a rural area with a skeletal medical infrastructure.
