In the past, the Chennai city recorded a negative growth rate of new Coronavirus cases. Now, in Chennai, the number of Coronavirus cases begins to increase as Chennai’s growth rate of new or fresh cases has reached zero percent.
For the last 7 days till Sunday, the overall average growth rate of fresh or new Coronavirus cases was at ‘Zero’ percent. This was according to the date from Chennai Corporation. The positive growth rate of new cases has been registered in 7 zones of GCC. These zones are Anna Nagar, Adyar, Thiru Vi-Ka- Nagar, etc.
All the 15 zones of GCC had recorded negative growth rates of new cases and this was until 13th July 2020. Chennai city on the whole had a minus 6.6 percent growth rate. More positive Coronavirus cases in the week than the number of cases confirmed in the previous week is indicated by a positive growth rate.
On 13th July 2020, Thiru Vi- Ka- Nagar zone recorded minus 12.3 percent growth rate and was considered as the worst-performing zone. This was recorded between 13th and 19th July 2020.
It must be noted that the growth rate dipped to 8.4 percent n 19th July. The fact is the number of cases increased from 6182 cases to 6853. With minus 4 percent Kodambakkam zone had the lowest growth rate.
An official belonging to GCC explained about the increased number of sample testing every day that has been responsible for many new cases. It is worthy to mention that on Sunday as many as 14,030 samples were tested by GCC and this was the highest ever tested since the Coronavirus infection outbreak.
Details of sheets that have COVID-19 positive cases have been removed from the official website by GCC. No specific reason has been cited for this removal. There were188 containment zones in Chennai and this was on Monday.
