With the Tamil Nadu Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturers’ Association calling off their strike, the city can now breathe easy. The price of water cans went up between 400 and 700 percent  of their original price. People were seen hunting for water cans on Saturday.

Say Association officials, ‘(We have) decided to withdraw the strike because (we) did not want residents to suffer. Several thousands of residents have been struggling because of lack of water. This could push them towards drinking contaminated water. So we decided to withdraw the strike… We have told all units to start production of water at 6pm. So the first cans of water should roll out by late night… Usual quantity of water cans will be supplied on Sunday morning to the suppliers and distributors,’
