The Archeological Survey of India (ASI) will restore the sloping ramparts in Fort St. George. These ramparts are with bulwarks that are for gun emplacement. Sources say that the restoration will strengthen the ramparts. They will also pave the way for heritage walks to be held on the Fort’s premises.

An ASI official said, ‘(We are) determined to improve the ambience of the Fort and make it fit to enter the list of world heritage monuments… The development will be taken up this year under a special repairs scheme. The ramparts will be cleared of vegetation that is weakening the structure and restored to its pristine status… (We have) sought the assistance of the Indian army, navy and also civic authorities in strictly making the ancient British bastion free of garbage… The restoration work will be taken up as a five-year plan and we expect a maximum of Rs 10 lakh for the special repair works from the government per annum. The army had in principle agreed to assist in cleaning the moat around the Fort… Also, the crumbling Sobey’s Last House, behind the St Mary’s Church, will be renovated.’
