Getting fully cured from Coronavirus infection is not as easy as you think!!
The residual symptoms such as pain and fatigue continue to be present in these patients. Apart from these two, there are also other serious health issues like strokes, heart attacks plus life threatening clots in the blood vessels etc. It is shocking to mention here that diabetes and BP have worsened in many Covid cured patients.
Just 2 weeks back, 84 year old Covid-19 cured patient discharged from Gleneagles Global Hospital returned back to the hospital with severe strokes. She was given treatment for a stroke and then sent back to her home. Later, she developed breathlessness and passed away. This was as per Dr. Subramanian Swaminathan, an expert in infectious diseases.
He was of the view that the death might have occurred due to heart attack triggered by Coronavirus infection complications. Not only elder patients, even younger patients with co-morbid conditions were brought back to the hospitals with clots.
According to Dr. N. Sekar, senior vascular surgeon of Kauvery Hospitals, atleast 10 recovered Covid-19 patients have returned back to the hospitals with clots on limbs, intestines, brain and heart in the last 10 days.
He then explained about how the data from across the globe has been showing the virus could worsen or could cause diabetes etc. Attacks on the pancreatic cells that secrete insulin by the virus like mumps, measles etc would be possible. For studying the effects of the virus, diabetologists across the world are forming a registry.
As per public health expert, Mr. T.S. Sunderraman, patients belonging to the cities like Chennai, Trichy, Madurai and Coimbatore etc were lucky as the super specialists like vascular surgeons in the cities could treat them effectively. This was not possible in the districts. He concluded that as the numbers increase in the districts morbidity and mortality would also increase.
