On Monday, 27th July, re-examinations were held in TN for those students who could not write their examinations on 24th march due to the lockdown. Out of 30,000plus students who couldn’t write the examinations of 24th March, just 519 students appeared for the re-exam held for subjects like chemistry, accountancy and geography.
As per a senior official belonging to the Directorate of School Education, a total of 846 students have downloaded their hall tickets but just 519 students appeared for the re-examinations. He added that 60% of students who had appeared for the re-exam were private candidates.
The absence of transport was taken into consideration by the authorities. The students were allotted their own schools or some nearby centres as examination centres due to the lack of transport.
Several safety measures were taken. The students who appeared for the re-exam wore face masks. Waiting rooms have been arranged by the head masters of the schools so that the students appearing for the re-examinations could revise their subjects till they were allowed to enter the exam halls. Hand sanitizers were provided for the students to wash their hands. Chennai city had as many as 16 examination centres and in TN there were 290 centres.
