On 8th August 2020, as many as14027 people were tested and out of this just 986 tested positive for the Covid-19 infection. This corresponds to just 7% of test positivity rate. This was as per the data from GCC

It was later revealed by Mr. G. Prakash, Chennai corporation commissioner that the civic body has been making huge efforts to reduce the test positivity rate to 6% or 6.5% before the end of August.

He hinted that from now on there would not be any steep decrease in the test positivity rates in Chennai and it would decrease slowly and steadily. Test positivity rate of 5% would be tremendous for the city of Chennai and it would be a milestone.

About 8lakh samples have been tested in the Chennai city till now 14000 tests are being done every day. More than 650 persons with severe acute respiratory illness or SARI have been rescued and admitted to the hospitals for treatment.

He explained how since the formation of the help desk every day the civic body has been rescuing atleast 15 to 25 persons with SARI and how this would decrease the mortality rate.

He then mentioned that the Chennai city has reached the doubling rate 0f 72.2 days and zones belonging to the north Chennai have reached a doubling rate of more than 100 days.

There are few zones like Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Kodambakkam and Valasaravakkam that have got high positivity rates now. These zones are now focussed by the GCC.
