The central districts such as Trichy, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Karur, Pudukottai, Perambalur and Ariyalur have caught the attention of many for the rise in the number of Coronavirus cases. In just 17 days from 1st of August, the central districts have recorded around 10,000 cases.

It must be noted that till 31st July 2020 the above said places of the central district had just 13,304 Corona cases. In just 17 days from 1st August as many as 9889 Coronavirus positive cases have been reported. This corresponded to a 75% increase in the cases. The number of persons who have succumbed to this infection in August till now is 174.

It has been brought to light by some social activists that those in the villages were not sensitised yet about the pandemic. Many random tests were being carried out at the fever camps.

Trichy based social activist Mr. Selvaraj expressed his views. He said that the TN government must initiate door-to-door testing in the rural places just similar to what the GCC does in Chennai. He added that mobile testing facilities would be helpful in identifying more Coronavirus persons.

In rural places, the samples collected from the suspected persons were not being sent to the testing centres and there were many complaints about this. The samples were sent for testing only after a certain number of samples got collected. Mr Selvaraj later revealed that priorities were given to the samples that were collected at the district headquarters hospitals. He concluded that all these have resulted in the delay in getting the results.
