As one of the strong preventive measure to prevent the raging coronavirus pandemic, lockdown condition has been imposed in the country in all states from 25th March onwards in different phases.

At the same time, considering the impact of the lockdown on the lifeline of the citizens, the central and state governments have been announcing relaxations on several fronts with each subsequent phase of the lockdown extension imposition.

Presently, the public transport facility has been totally blocked since the inception of the lockdown imposition.

Meanwhile, the Central Government has strongly emphasised that the prevailing E-pass system for permission of travel from one state to another or from one district to another must be withdrawn immediately.

In this regard, the state government of Tamil Nadu considers that withdrawing E-pass system for travel will largely increase the pubic movement thereby leading to the likelihood of the impact/extent of the coronavirus pandemic spread!

In this regard, the Chief Secretary of the State Government of Tami Nadu, K. Shanmugam has already given all the recommendations for activities to be undertaken to prevent the expected spread.

Subsequently, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, E. Palaniswamy, is organising a video-conference today (Saturday, 29th August) with all the district collectors.

This videoconference of the Tami Nadu Chief Minister and the district collectors are scheduled in this afternoon.

It is expected that some important decisions are to be taken and announced after the above meetings.

Tami Nadu Chief Minister will make subsequent announcements. The issues whether the lockdown will continue in September as well, and the details of relaxations.
