The lockdown restrictions have been lifted by the TN government and people could go out of their houses to their workplaces now. The experts were of the opinion that the people must follow the safety norms more now that they did in the past. The virus has been accepted as a part of the lives and this doesn’t mean that the threat has vanished.

It was later pointed out by Dr. Sivakumar, chief of medicine at Villupuram Government Medical College that while TN is adhering to masking and hand washing recommendations social distancing remains an issue. To avoid any risk of infection, there must be enough space between the people in the workplaces.

He made it clear that though public transport is available in Chennai, people must travel by taxis or by using their vehicles. Rush hours in public transportation might lead to crowding and social distancing would be difficult. This might lead to more Coronavirus cases.

It is important to use facemasks correctly and dispose of them properly. Separate biomedical waste disposal bins must be there at the workplaces to prevent the spread of infection as usage of face masks would increase in the weeks.

Everyone must do their bit in the weeks moving forward and this was according to Dr. Hariharan, chief of medicine at the Stanley Medical College and Hospital.

He spoke about how the Covid-19 infection has not come to end till now. He stressed the importance of personnel accountability. Fact is there would be more hotspots for Covid-19 now as the people go out to their work now.

The people now must be careful about what they come in contact with plus their own safety measures. Based on the number of Coronavirus infection cases that get reported in Chennai in the coming weeks, the impact of the decision would be known.
