The 13th Planning Commission has commissioned Rs. 10 crore towards renovation of 31 heritage temples. These temples include Sri Mahadevar temple in Kancheepuram and Kadambavaneshwar Temple in Cuddalore.
An official said, “We have already finalised the works at the ‘ritual’ temple monuments and it will be executed by the state public works department.’ The 31 temples are under the control of the State Archeology Department.
The Department has also started to digitize inscriptions in Salem and Sivaganga districts. About 10000 pages of palm leaf inscriptions in Tamil have been digitized by the Government Oriental Manuscripts Library and Research Centre. This number is in addition to the 22750 manuscripts that have already been digitized. The manuscripts cover topics such as Tamil culture, astronomy, Siddha and Ayurveda, among others.
