The Mettur Thermal Power Station’s Stage III Project has shut down for Major repair work. The plant produces 600 MW of power.

Says an official at TANGEDCO (Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation), ‘The generation in the new unit has been suspended to replace the defective boiler burner… Last month, we had noticed some problem in the plant’s boiler burner which needs to be replaced. However, due to increase in the demand for power, we (could) not afford suspension of power generation in the plant. Now with increase in the wind power generation, we are in a position to meet the demand without the plant. Since the boiler burners have to be imported from China, work is expected to be completed only by July 10.’
