The strict rule that must be followed in the government buses have been flouted both by the public as well as by the transport department officials and this has come as a shocker now.
It is well known that the government buses have begun their operations from Monday, 7th September onwards in TN. These buses are not adhering strictly to the SOP or Standard Operating Procedures released by the state. The rules were flouted by both the public and by the transport corporation officials.
On Tuesday, on the two way trip from Chennai to Madurai it was found that the public rushed into the buses and violated the social distancing norms totally. There were no thermal scanners and hand sanitizers at the bus entrance for the passengers to use.
It is said that both passengers as well as the government officials have not followed the Covid-19 precautions. It must be noted that the bus drivers and conductors did not bother to inform the passengers about social distancing norms but wearing facemasks by the passengers were checked.
It was earlier said that all the passengers would be thermally scanned for Covid-19 symptoms before entering the buses, but it was not done. Moreover, no health worker was available to check the passengers.
The passengers were shocked to find that some seats were not in good shape and also not clean. Point is there was more than 5 months of down time for the transport corporations and it was sufficient for cleaning. It was found that sanitizers were not provided at the government buses in Madurai.
In the town buses, the situation was worse as many did not wear facemasks and the bus drivers/conductors did not even remind the passengers. The casual approach of the transport corporation officials has been revealed now at a time when the TN government has made norms violation a compoundable offence.
