The good news now is that the number of Covid-19 cases in the city of Chennai has come down to less than 10000 and as a result of this the number of containment zones in Chennai is just 4 only now. Fact is that all the 4 containment zones are present in the Madhavaram zone.
The data from the Chennai Corporation has revealed that there are just 9833 active Coronavirus cases in Chennai city and this was out of a total of 151560 cases reported ever since the Coronavirus infection started in Chennai.
That is as on Thursday, 17th September, Chennai city had just 6percent of active cases. Now, 14 GCC zones out of total 15 zones have less than 10% of Coronavirus active cases and this is superb. Manali zone of north Chennai has the lowest number of active cases at 116
It is worthy to note that Kodambakkam zone has the highest number of active cases at 1140. This is 7% of the total positive cases in Chennai city. There are as many as 641 active cases in the Alandur zone and this is 11% of the total positive cases in Chennai.
In the Chennai city as many as 1.38lakhs of persons have recovered from the deadly infection and 3013 patients have succumbed to the infection. The highest number of deaths has taken place in the Teynampet zone and 402 persons died due to Covid-19 infection. This Teynampet zone has a mortality rate 2.78% of active cases.
North Chennai based Tiruvottiyur zone has the highest mortality rate of 2.81% and this despite registering just 134 deaths. There were 339 deaths in the Anna Nagar zone and 321 have passed away in the Kodambakkam zone. More than 300 persons have passed away in both Royapuram zone and in the Thiru Vi-Ka Nagar zone.
