Guideline released by Traffic Police - on vehicle number plates!
In a special notification released by the Chennai Metro City Traffic Police, it is mentioned:
“Presently, most of the number plates used in the vehicles operating in the Chennai Metro City is not as per the relevant Rules & Regulations! Even the way the numbers have been painted/fixed is not as per the Rules & Regulations.
- All private-owned vehicles number plates MUST BE IN WHITE colour! The Vehicle Number in this white plate MUST BE IN BLACK colour.
- Al commercial vehicles MUST have a number plates in YELLOW colour and the Vehicle Number in the Number Plate MUST BE IN BLACK colour.
- For the 2-wheelers with less than 70 cc engine capacity, the height of the alphabets/numbers in the vehicle front plate should be of 15 mm height and the thickness MUST BE 2.5 mm.
- For the 2-wheelers with less than 70 cc engine capacity, the height of the alphabets/numbers in the vehicle backplate should be of 35 mm height and the thickness MUST BE 5 mm.
- For the 3-wheelers with less than 500 cc engine capacity, the height of the alphabets/numbers in the vehicle both in the front & back plates should be of 35 mm height and the thickness MUST BE 7 mm and the gap between each letter must be 5 mm.
- For the 3-wheelers with more than 500 cc engine capacity, the height of the alphabets/numbers in the vehicle both in the front & back plates should be of 40 mm height and the thickness MUST BE 7 mm and the gap between each letter must be 5 mm.
- For all the cars (4-wheelers), the height of the alphabets/numbers in the vehicle both in the front & back plates should be of 65 mm height and the thickness MUST BE 10 mm and the gap between each letter must be 10 mm.
- For all the vehicles registered after 1st April 2019, high-safety number plates MUST BE FIXED,
