Reopening of schools: Central government releases new guidelines!

With all things set and prepared for the reopening of schools after a rather long gap due to the raging coronavirus pandemic, the central government released on Monday (yesterday, 5th October) the new guidelines to be strictly followed on the reopening of schools.

Due to the lockdown imposition throughout the country declared as a preventive measure against the spread of the raging coronavirus pandemic, al the academic institutions in the country including all schools and colleges remained closed right from 25th March.

Meanwhile, with the objective of retrieving the economy which had been seriously affected by the lockdown imposition, the central government commenced gradually announcing some relaxations during the subsequent phases of the lockdown imposition.

Presently, the 5th Phase of the lockdown imposition is in progress. Activities have been undertaken for the reopening of schools and colleges in this phase.

All the states and the Union Territories are planning to reopen schools after 15th October. It may be noted that this reopening of schools is only for the students studying in 9th Standard to +2.

In this scenario, the Department of School Education and Literacy of the Central Government has released the new guidelines for this occasion of reopening of schools. It is mentioned:

“The respective state governments can decide on the reopening of schools on 15th October! This is not mandatory. The State Governments may also decide to continue online education presently in progress.”

Further, it has also released the guidelines to be strictly followed when the schools are reopened. According to this:

  • The entire school complex must be cleaned with disinfectant.
  • The students attending school must do so with written consent from their parents.  The schools must form the Emergency Help Squad, Students’ General Help Squad, Cleanliness Monitoring Squads, and other squads.
  • With an objective to protect the students, the schools may undertake al necessary measures.
  • Keeping social distances must be strictly adhered and monitored while entering the school/class and while exiting the same.
  • It must also be ensured that the students wear the face masks during class periods.
  • The schools must also ensure the availability of trained medical helpers and doctors within the school.
  • Relaxations must be announced regarding the regulations on attendance and holidays.
  • No examinations must be conducted during the 1st 3 weeks of the school functioning!
