The Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC would be training the street vendors in online retail business. Soon, the street foods would be home delivered for the residents of Chennai.

On a pilot basis, around 50 street vendors would be given training and this was according to an officer belonging to Chennai Corporation. He explained about how the central government had launched an initiative to introduce door delivery of food items prepared and sold by the street vendors in 5 cities including Chennai city. This would boost the business of the street vendors and help them to compete with the established ones.

It has been brought out that the centre has also associated with a private food delivery aggregator and has signed as MoU. Truth is that the street vendors registered with Chennai Corporation would be selected by GCC. There are as many as27195 street vendors registered with the civic body now and these vendors have been issued corporation ID cards also.

Many street vendors have got affected due to the lockdown and to help these vendors the central government has announced Rs 10000 bank loan. For the benefit of the street vendors, GCC has been coordinating with the banks now.

The official later threw light on the distribution of TN government’s relief fund of Rs 1000 to more than 14000 street vendors in Chennai. For training the street vendors on safety and sanitation while selling the food items online, GCC would rope in the Food Safety Department.
