It is now revealed that GCC has organised a handlebar survey on Saturday and the cycle enthusiasts would take a ride and provide their feedback on road improvement and making the roads cycle friendly. It must be taken into account that this handlebar survey is a part of the cycle for change initiative of the central government that entails the small cities to improve the roads and make them cycle friendly.
Information collected is on Saturday the participants would ride cycles on the selected routes and give their feedback. An officer of GCC hinted that the survey would start at 5pm.
Point is that this survey would be conducted by the civic body and Chennai Smart City limited or CSCL and the participants would ride their cycles from Little Mount to Corporation Park in MRC Nagar.
The official later spoke about how there is no need to pre-register the names of the participants. Those who do not have cycles would be given cycles from the cycle sharing system. It is compulsory for the participants to wear facemasks.
As many as 40 cycles would be available from the cycle sharing system. Fact is that this would be the second survey that would be organised by GCC under the cycle for challenge and the first survey was an online survey.
The online survey has been in the process now. The issues of potholes and traffic congestion on City roads have been creating issues for the cyclists and this was as per 50% of the participants.
It was brought out by 70 percent participants that the fear of being hit by speeding vehicles for not using cycles. Based on the feedback obtained from both these surveys, GCC would be improving any of the 5km stretches in Chennai city as cycling friendly. It is now mentioned that based on the pilot other roads would also be taken up.
