Theatre group Theatre Y performed a street play on creating awareness about Multiple Sclerosis at the Chennai Citi Centre Mall in Mylapore. They played out a story in which a normal family sits down to watch TV but there is one person who keeps going to the toilet. The play stressed on the fact that ‘it could happen to you’.
Those in the age group of 18 to 40 are especially vulnerable to the disease. Once it sets in, the disease can affect the brain and the spinal cord. The play was part of a week long programme which has been organised by the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India.
‘We felt that a play in the restricted space of an auditorium reaches only limited people. It was then the idea of street play came up, through which we could spread the messages in malls, parks and college canteens’, said one of the actors.
