Kanyakumari will now have a Lord Venkateswara temple identical to the one in Tirupati. The bhoomi pooja for the temple will be held on June 4th.

Speaking to the press, members of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) said, ‘The decision to
build such a temple is the result of Srinivasa Thirukalyanam that was held in February 2010 at Kanyakumari. Lakhs of devotees attended the programme. Witnessing such a crowd, TTD decided to construct Venkatesa Perumal temple at Kanyakumari.

‘The temple will be located on Vivekananda Kendra campus. Vivekananda Kendra provided us 5.5 acres of land to build the temple. Though it will be within the campus, the temple will have separate entry and exit points. TTD has allocated Rs 22.5 crore to build the temple. The contractors for this project are being finalised. It will take two years to complete the construction… The temple is to be a ‘Divya Kshektram’ whereby it will have Sri Venkateswara Swami, Sridevi Amma and Bhudevi Amma. Along with these
deities, the temple will have Karudaazhvaar, Pushkarani, Goshala, Veda Patshala and Kalyana Mandapam. The rituals based on ‘Aahama rules’ that are practiced in Tirupati Temple will followed here too… The temple will be bigger than the one in Delhi. The TTD temples are already located in places like Hyderabad,Bengaluru and Rishikesh. This is the first time TN is to have such a temple.’
