Cyclone Nivar presently located 520 km from Chennai Metro City! Train Services cancelled!

The low-pressure zone, which developed a day ago over the Bay of Bengal has now intensified and transformed into a strong depression zone. It has been assessed that this depression zone will intensify further and transform into a cyclone in the next 24 hours.

This depression zone, after transforming into a severe cyclone, is likely to cross the coasts between Mamallapuram and Karaikkal. Due to this development, there are prospects for heavy rains in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Thus, there are prospects for heavy rains in Tamil Nadu State from today (Monday, 23rd November). Presently, the cyclone ‘Nivar’ is located at 520 km away from the Chennai Metro City and 500 km away from Puducherry.

As a precautionary measure against the cyclone and its effects, Southern Railway has announced that train services will be cancelled for 2 days on tomorrow and the day after (Tuesday, 24th November, and Wednesday, 25th November).

6 Trains which were to operate between Mayiaduthurai-Thanjavur route is cancelled on dates 24th |& 25th November.

Uzhavan Express, operating between Chennai and Thanjavur is cancelled. The train from |Chennai to Trichy is also cancelled.

Presently, the depression zone is situated at 520 km away from the Chennai Metro City. This is likely to transform into a cyclone tonight and then into a severe cyclone tomorrow and will drift towards the northwest direction and as per the present situation, is likely to cross coasts between Karaikkal and Mamallapuram.

As such, rains will persist in the State of Tamil Nadu until 26th November.

Accordingly, when the cyclone crosses the coasts, high-speeds winds will blow at 100 kmph to 110 kmph. So, the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has warned the fishermen NOT TO VENTURE INTO THE S|E|A| UNTIL 25th NOVEMBER.
