If you feel bored and don’t know where to go on the weekends in Chennai city, then don’t worry!!

There are many who visit lakes near Chennai now and they feel happy. These lakes and other water bodies in and around the Chennai city are full of water and present a fantastic sight. The residents visit these on the weekends with their families and have fun.

It was surprising to note that a Chennai resident visited as many as 17 lakes between Madipakkam and Kalpakkam and this was on the day after the Cyclone Nivar made landfall. He pointed out that he started at 6:30 am in the morning and came back to his house at 7:30 pm in the night.

He added that on 28th and 29th of November he and his friends went exploring Kalpakkam lakes till north Pondicherry. Madurantakam Lake which is one of the biggest lakes in TN was visited by him and his friends. Thaiyur Lake’s outlet points were visited by another Chennai resident. Not many would know that Thaiyur Lake has got beautiful outlet points known as kalangal. Truth is that Thaiyur Lake is very scenic with flora and fauna and its outlets would be superb due to the surplus water. This Thaiyur Lake is located near Kelambakkam on the OMR and many families visit this place on the weekends.

It is now said that Chembarambakkam, Poondi, Puzhal, Sholavaram lakes etc would be superb and these lakes would yield good revenue. Point is that the safety of the public plus lakes structural safety must be taken into account while opening these lakes for tourism. Strict conservation and eco-tourism would be important. Many were of the view that tourism based litters plus change of natural dynamic etc might not support the conservation of the water bodies.
