It is well known to us that Chennai got heavy rains in recent times and this has flooded many roads. The roads belonging to the north Chennai have been affected badly due to the heavy rains.

The presence of many potholes on the roads in north Chennai has made commuting difficult. At night time, riding two wheelers with a pillion rider has become very difficult due to the absence of illumination. This was in Mannady in north Chennai.

It was pointed out by an advocate that Savarimuthu Street has got many potholes and even little rains would fill up these potholes creating issues for the motorists. Representations have been sent to local legislators and MPs about these issues on the roads. Requests have been made to utilise the local area development funds to rebuild the roads there.

The advocate later threw light on how the lanes opposite to the HC of Madras leading up to Chennai Beach station were waterlogged after the rains. He added that the roads have been dug up by the service agencies and that has made the roads even worse. Potholes have been present on both the sides of the roads at Tiruvottiyur High Road and this was brought to light by an activist/ resident of north Chennai.

The videos and photographs of the damaged road from Tondiarpet RTO to the hospital treating communicable diseases have surprised many now. The pipe laying work by the MWD has been responsible for the damage of the roads in Mannady. This was according to an official from the GCC. He explained about how the road leading to Tondiarpet hospital was cut by the service agencies and due to this the road has become worse after the rains. He hinted that the GCC had floated tenders for patching up road work and it would be carried out in December.
