Time as well as fuel of the motorists gets wasted by waiting at the traffic signals in Chennai. In the future, this won’t be an issue in Chennai.

The news is GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation would introduce automated traffic signals under Intelligent Traffic Management Systems or ITS. By this, the signal duration would be adjusted based on the traffic flow. Truth is that ITS is a part of Smart City Mission. The traffic signals are now set manually is well known.

As per an official belonging to Chennai Corporation, under ITS cameras would be placed along the major roads and data would be sent to specially designed software. This software would operate the signals.      As many as 165 junctions have been identified by GCC in the core places of Chennai city and this was out of a total of 491 traffic junctions.

The main objective was to increase the traffic flow with reduction in the delays and accidents. The violation of traffic rules would be captured by the cameras that would also be installed at the traffic junctions. Accident prone places would also have cameras.  To reduce the accidents, the GCC would also redesign the traffic junctions. Updates on the arrival of the buses would be available for the passengers at the bus stops.

It is well known that IMS is an advanced application whose objective is to provide innovative services related to different modes of transport plus in the management of traffic. By this, more coordinated, safer modes of transport networks would be possible for the users.
