Many people across the world have been affected by the Coronavirus pandemic now. This pandemic has created chaos and both elders as well as those with pre existing medical conditions have been regarded as the most vulnerable.
It is true that children across the world have been affected by this deadly infection. Similar to the adults, many symptoms are seen in the children due to this infection and the symptoms are runny nose, loss of smell/taste, fatigue, sore throat, congestion etc. It is believed that the novel Coronavirus has been lenient towards the children.
The recent reports have clearly shown that a new group of symptoms have started affecting the children. The research study has brought out that Covid-19 could lead to serious issues named Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome or MIS-C in children. Mostly, the children have got just mild symptoms mentioned above but few children who had this MIS-C showed severe inflammation in various important organs in the body like brain, eyes, heart, lungs, kidneys etc.
Important piece of information is that a Covid -19 positive child with MIS-C would show various symptoms other than the common symptoms. The new symptoms are dry/cracked lips, swollen glands in the neck, rashes, red fingers or toes, inflamed eyes.
It is important to mention here that research was carried out on 35 children affected by Covid induced MIS-C and it was found that the children showed symptoms like swollen eyes, flushed cheeks and strawberry tongue. The researchers have found that the symptoms could be ‘mucocutaneous’ that involves skin as well as nostrils.
Information collected was that strawberry tongue is a condition where the children develop swollen bumpy, bright red tongue. As many as 8 Covid-19 affected children out of total 35 showed this strawberry tongue. Truth is seven children had red swollen eyes and 6 children had flushed cheeks in them.
Group of researchers belonging to The New York Medics assessed and evaluated 35 children who were admitted in 2 hospitals and this was when the Coronavirus pandemic was at its peak.
Twenty five out of 35 children met the criteria of the syndrome (MIS-C). Point is that this syndrome affected atleast 2 organs in the body. Mucocutaneous changes were observed in 29 children that was 835 of the population under surveillance. Eighteen kids had red palms and 17 had lip hyperaemia. It must be noted that this is a condition that leads to increased blood flow finally resulting in redness and inflammation etc.
