Be careful!! You could be the next person to be targeted by the fraudsters now!!

The elders or the senior citizens belonging to the Chennai city are facing this issue of vishing or voice phishing. Posing as bank officials, the fraudsters call the senior persons on the landlines.

The police department has been taking steps to prevent this issue of voice phishing. They have asked the senior persons to be careful against the fraudsters.

A resident belonging to T. Nagar lost a huge amount of nearly Rs 1.8 lakhs to a fraudster by this voice phishing.

Vishing or voice phishing:
It is a practise of making calls by posing as a bank official. By this, the fraudsters would be convincing the elderly persons to divulge the bank accounts, OTP etc.

In recent times, in Delhi, the Anti Bank Fraud Wing of CCB exposed a gang that was involved in a phishing racket and this took many by surprise.

The T. Nagar resident who was cheated by the conman expressed her thoughts. She mentioned that after she came back from temple she received a call from an unknown person who introduced himself as a manager of a private bank. The unknown person wanted to update her husband’s debit card and told them that they need not go to the bank. He even promised her to send the upgraded debit card to her home. At this juncture, she trusted him and divulged all the information and shared the OTP numbers too. It must be noted that the same person called her regarding updating her card and she shared her details. From the messages she received on her mobile phone, this Chennai resident came to know that she had lost her money to a fraudster.

It is revealed that atleast 10 petitions were received by each cyber crime wing operating under various deputy commissioners of police now.
